We’re Back in Business in Illinois!

Author : Tom Rathbone

Thanks to the Performance Marketing Association and the Illinois Supreme Court, advertisers are now free to work with Illinois affiliate marketers again.

Late last week the Illinois Supreme Court upheld the circuit court ruling that the state’s Affiliate Nexus Tax law is unconstitutional. Advertisers and publishers have been making announcements ever since that they’re open for business in Illinois once again.

Today several of the merchants whose affiliate programs are managed by Schaaf-PartnerCentric announced that they, too, are once again accepting applications from Illinois affiliate marketers.

The advertisers who are now accepting applications from Illinois affiliates are:

BuildASign, a leading online custom printing provider, is now accepting applications here.

EasyCanvasPrints, which helps customers turn photos into canvas works of art, is now accepting applications here.

DrJays, the urban fashion leader, is now accepting applications here.

DJPremium, the destination e-tailer specializing in premium denim and trendsetting contemporary apparel, isnow accepting applications here.

Joss & Main, a premier members-only site that offers limited-time sales on the world’s best brands for your home and life, is now accepting applications here.

This Just In: A Week’s Worth of News for Affiliate Marketers

Author : Tom Rathbone

AffiliateMarketingDigestheader

Happy Friday to you! We’ve got another week’s worth of news and tips for you in the Affiliate Marketing Digest.

We start this week’s update with a confession: that the Schaaf-PartnerCentric team is still a bit dazzled by the company retreat we had earlier this month at DisneyWorld Orlando. We explore the lessons we learned – and the memories we made – in our post, “There’s Room for Magic Here, Right?”

We’re also sharing a think piece from ClickZ about flaws in the attribution modeling mindset. Definitely worth a read given the strong emphasis being placed on attribution these days.

The latest issue of Affiliate Summit’s FeedFront magazine (can it really be issue 24 already?) is now available online. Lots of great articles this time including Missy Ward’s safety tips for those of us who work from home. Our own Matt Bell writes about optimizing long tail affiliate relationships.

If you’re a leader in the industry who has time to get more involved, here’s a great opportunity. The PMA is now accepting nominations for its Board of Directors.

Our clients are leaders in the space themselves and often offer valuable lessons for others. This week is no exception. Paper Style has managed to effectively steer their SEO efforts through the latest Google Panda and Penguin updates – and they have advice to share. Stamps.com has just been named to Forbes Magazine’s list of America’s Best Small Companies, and The Gallery Collection Earns 2013 BizRate Circle of Excellence Award

The holidays are nearly upon us. Here’s a great infographic that offers a profile of a holiday shopper. And we ‘ve got Five Tips to Get Your Product Feed Ready for the Holidays.

We hope you enjoy these updates and the rest in this week’s Affiliate Marketing Digest.

Breaking News: PMA Illinois Lawsuit Victory Upheld

Author : Tom Rathbone

The Performance Marketing Association has just announced that the Illinois Supreme Court has upheld the circuit court ruling that the state’s Affiliate Nexus Tax law is unconstitutional. The PMA will share more information as the details become available, but this is another victory for the industry association as it continues to fight nexus tax legislation across the nation.

It was on April 25, 2012 that Judge Robert Lopez Cepero issued a ruling stating that the Affiliate Nexus Tax in Illinois is unconstitutional and violates the Internet Tax Freedom Act.

The nexus tax was passed in Illinois in 2011. More than 9,000 Illinois affiliate marketers were adversely affected by the decision, which meant that 9,000 online businesses lost advertising agreements with more than 1,000 out-of-state retailers, who stopped working with Illinois affiliate marketers to avoid the burden of having to collect Illinois sales tax.

For updates visit the PMA site often.

There’s a Place for Magic Here, Right?

Author : Tom Rathbone

disneykids

Magic is not a term we often hear in our industry – but you’re probably hearing it more often in recent communications from your affiliate managers at Schaaf-PartnerCentric. We should probably explain why this is the case.

We’re just back from a company retreat at DisneyWorld  – and magical is THE adjective whenever you spend time at Disney. You can share in the fun in ourFlickr PhotoStream of the retreat.

Disney offers many lessons for any business – including ours. Much care goes into everything. Cast members are routinely asked to contribute their thoughts to the overall running of “the show.” After all, who better to understand how best to keep lines moving or manage tons of laundry than the very people who do that work day in and day out.

The lessons weren’t limited to our day of talking and touring. With the wonderful dinners and days of fun we had at the DisneyWorld parks, we also realized that we’re pretty blessed. It’s a rare day when our whole team (some members of which work in the Austin office; the rest working remotely from home) comes together under one roof – but when we do, you have a sense that you are among friends.

In fact, our CEO Brook Schaaf felt “at home” enough to treat us all to an evening serenade, singing a few classic rock hits for us before dinner.

So, there you have it. You may hear us talking about “magic” in the future – and this is why. Yes, magic is possible for any company in any line of work. You’ll hear more about this from us, surely. You may even hear us humming Disney tunes, too, and if you see us dressing up as Disney characters, feel free to alert the appropriate authorities.

Don’t Miss Affiliate Marketing Digest

Author : Tom Rathbone

AffiliateMarketingDigestheader

Our Affiliate Marketing Digest is here with the latest news and tips for you.

Halloween continues to grow as a commercial holiday – and it’s posed for another great year according to industry estimates. We’ve got a look at creative marketing that is helping retailers make the most of Halloween. Don’t miss the list of the most-searched Halloween costumes this year. Hint: minions are hot! We want a minion, already.
You can also take this opportunity to review the forecast for Q4 and holiday sales.

Forrester has a new study that suggests that while apps have consumer attention, in-app advertising is far from perfect.

We’ve got a fresh update on FCC regulations that might affect your business. If part of your marketing efforts includes auto-dial telemarketing, you should read about the latest FCC requirement.

For those of you who like to think about the future (you know who you are) we’ve got an interesting piece on digital wallets, which most adults expect to replace physical money according to a new survey.

This week’s actionable tips includes two must-reads: four words that double persuasion. Can you guess what they are? We’re told they are even MORE effective than a Jedi mind trick. You should also read the five reasons why you should embrace rejection (aside from the obvious reason: that rejection fuels inspiration for that country song you’ve been meaning to write).

We also announced a new client this week. Schaaf-PartnerCentric is now managing thePaper Style affiliate program on the CJ network.

One last thing: Affiliate Summit is now accepting nominations for your favorite affiliate marketing blogs. There are a lot of great blogs out there – and if you enjoy this weekly Affiliate Marketing Digest, which is a big part of our blog offering, we ask that you include the Schaaf-PartnerCentric blog among your favorites. You can submit your nomination(s) for your favorite industry blog(s) directly to Affiliate Summit.

If you’re not subscribed to receive Affiliate Marketing Digest in your email Inbox each Friday, you may sign up to receive it today.
