2013: A Holiday Season Like No Other

Call it a perfect storm. Or a series of coincidences. But there’s no denying that 2013 is poised to be a holiday season like no other.

First, consider the fact that Hannukah starts on Thanksgiving Day this year – something that hasn’t happened since the 1800s. By the way – it won’t happen again for thousands of years. This means all of those Hannukah gifts are being sought right now.

Then, consider that Thanksgiving takes place the last Thursday of November instead of the third. That pushes back the holiday shopping surge. It also means there are only 26 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last year there were 32 days.

Black Friday mania is later in the calendar this year – but it will really start early. Large retailers like Walmart and Newegg have already started to highlight promotions and holiday deals online and several retailers plan to be open on Thanksgiving Day rather than opening early Friday for the usual Black Friday shopping extravaganza.

Cyber Monday is pushed to early December – but never fear. There are two Cyber Mondays (Dec. 2 and Dec. 9) – to be followed by Free Shipping Day (Dec. 18).

For all of these reasons (and more), the 2013 holiday season is expected to be a holiday like no other.

Enjoy this Week’s Affiliate Marketing Digest

Welcome to Friday and another edition of Affiliate Marketing Digest. Our lead story this week is a new Nielsen survey that says of those who research products via smartphone, the majority (82%) buy in-store while 45% buy online.  In a related item, mobile shopping is turning Thanksgiving Day into a prime holiday shopping day.

It’s Q4 – or as we have taken to calling it – the New Year Prediction Thunderdome. In the coming weeks everyone will be offering their thoughts on the hottest trends to come in 2014 – but this week Affiliate Window got a head start on the soothsaying.

The PMA has announced its list of candidates for the 2014 Board of Directors.
