Back in June of last year, Schaaf-PartnerCentric announced our influencer marketing service called REACH (Relationships, Exposure, Advocacy, Connection, Hype). Outreach is made to potential influencers and responsive influencers are vetted and partnership recommendations are made to the client. The entire process from placement negotiations to insertion order execution to placement proof are handled by our team. And, tracking a client’s KPI’s and delivering performance reporting is essential to properly determine the value of the placement. It’s also important to note that REACH can still be embraced by any web retailer, not just those serviced by Schaaf-PartnerCentric’s affiliate program management services.

How long have you worked at SPC? 2 years
What does your typical work day look like? I have my standard day to day tasks: answering both client and publisher emails, reviewing program metrics to stay on top of and report on weekly/monthly fluctuations, client weekly calls, internal strategy meetings. However, the part that really excites me is the out of the norm requests where clients have a specific KPI they are focusing on and need help optimizing. Thinking outside of the box to help with these initiatives is something I thrive on because it takes me out of the standard tasks, and let’s me fully leverage my critical thinking skills. I LOVE collaborating with my clients on new ideas. It’s all about working together with the common goal of growth in the most efficient and streamlined way possible.
What do you enjoy most about the industry? This industry is ever changing, and has grown leaps and bounds since I first entered it back in 2007. I love the visibility I get from the various advertiser verticals I have the opportunity to manage, as well as the plug and play of what publisher distribution works with one advertiser vs. another. I keep learning and growing with my clients, and I love that. The other part is the people I have the privilege of working with, both internal here at SPC as well as my clients and publisher partners. Regardless of the side of business I am working with, one thing has remained constant in the last 9+ years, and that is the multitude of kind, collaborative, and intelligent people I have grown to know and can depend on.
What movie title best describes your life? “Life As A House”. Outside of this movie being shot in my hometown of Palos Verdes, CA, the theme is something that absolutely resonates with me. Relationships with yourself and others, like houses, need to be built and maintained. I’m an exceptionally relationship oriented individual, and I operate with the understanding that we all are constant works in progress. Relationships are hard work, but when you devote enough time to yourself, and by extension to your relationships, both personal and business related, you will come out with a beautiful end result.
Is there anything else you’d like readers to know about you? One of my passions has always been creative writing, and back in high school, one of my short stories centered around a son losing his mother (thankfully, not based on true events, folks!) was mentioned in our local newspaper. Writing has always been an outlet for me to expel anything positive or negative in my life.

What does your typical work day look like?Many, many emails to respond to! It really comes down to staying on top of priority projects and tasks, and working as hard as you can to accomplish them that day! The funnest part of my day is discovering a great partner for a client to work with, and of course, working with SPC teammates.
What do you enjoy most about the industry?It is ever-evolving which can make it challenging, but never boring! And, if you have been in the affiliate space for some time like I have been, the colleagues you work with and the good friends you make become like family.
When you were little, what did you dream of being when you grew up?Looking back at my ‘school days’ book that my mom had me fill out and she pasted my school picture in, there were questions about what you wanted to be when you grew up. It changed all the time! One year I wanted to be a nurse and the next year I wanted to be a ballerina….I would not have been good at either!!
Is there anything else you’d like readers to know about you?I love to be social but am also a loner…is that possible?

Every day is different but usually consists of answering client and publisher inquiries and requests, as well as calls and discussions with clients, affiliates, my SPC colleagues, etc. plus a variety of regular and ad hoc tasks that are scheduled each day, week, month!
What do you enjoy most about the industry? I really enjoy how dynamic the industry is, as well as the variety of clients I work with and per above, every day is different which makes it exciting and challenging!

Is there anything else you want readers to know about you?I lived in Colorado for 11 years, and hiked 5 of of the 54 “Fourteeners” aka 14,000–foot peaks (some a few times)!

The gift giving season is upon us and for many merchants this means the sales start to roll in… CHA-CHING! Unfortunately, Q4 doesn’t bring holiday cheer for all merchants. This can be true for any merchant that sells products specific to the spring/summer months or items with no true seasonality (such as products that are considered necessities more than wants). What should merchants like this do? Instead of going quiet during Q4, here are some tips to make the most of the season and drive a little more revenue:
Test, Test, Test
Take this time as an opportunity to test out offers that you normally wouldn’t through the affiliate channel. Test your tried and true coupons against a variety of offers your customer base has never seen before. You can test $ off vs. % off, free shipping vs. low flat rate shipping, new customer specific offers, free gifts with purchase and deals with spending threshold. These tests should not only identify your top performing offer, but also provide you with insight as to which offers work best with different segments of your customer base. By testing and analyzing results now, you will be equipped with the best offers when entering your peak season. Plus, you may even find that this Q4 drove more revenue than usual!
Fake it ‘til you Make it!
Make your site and products relevant to the season. Add a little holiday language to your site, affiliate links and banners. If you have the ability to run promotions, push a Black Friday coupon out to your affiliate channel. If you make it seem like you have a product you can sell NOW, your customers will be more likely to buy NOW. You will be happily surprised to see an increase in conversion and higher than usual sales!
Participate in Low Risk Placement Opportunities
So, you may be thinking, “why would I participate in Q4 placements when I am unlikely to see a return?” This is a very valid question. The goal here is not to spend any flat fees on placements but get enough coverage within the affiliate channel to remain top of mind. Look for opportunities where you can supply a small increase in commission in exchange for holiday placement. Consider participating in increased cash back opportunities on Loyalty/Rewards sites and don’t be afraid to ask your publishers if they have any remnant spots available that you may be featured in free of charge. Remember, there are more consumers shopping now and more eyeballs will be on you if you are in the right spot. Even if they aren’t ready to buy now, your brand will be remembered for when the customer is ready to make that purchase.
Play on Obscure Holidays
It may seem that Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Hanukkah and Christmas are the only holidays in Q4, but there are plenty more! Run a quick search and look for all the upcoming national holidays. You are likely to find a holiday relevant to your product or service that you can form a promotion around. Do your products Kick Butt in the industry? If your answer is “hell-yeah” then “National Kick Butt Day” (October 10th) is a great time for you to create a sale. Sell Mattresses? Well, November is National Sleep Month and could be your time to shine. Put on your creative cap, have fun and make the most of what is available.
