Author : Dana Pezzin

Schaaf-PartnerCentric is celebrating 10 years in business and we have so much to be thankful for! Here are just a few of the many blessings we give thanks for this holiday season!

1. Our Team-

“I am thankful to you all that choose to work for SPC every day- I know each and every one of you has options and I do not take for granted that it’s a voluntary decision on your part every day to get up and recommit to excellent work and your team here at SPC. THANK YOU!”

– Stephanie Harris, CEO of Schaaf-PartnerCentric

“Our employees are truly some of the best in the industry. They go above and beyond every day and are a dream team to work with!” – Julie Àvila, VP of Client Services

“I am so thankful for our amazing team and this wonderful company. When I tell my friends about the perks I have, they are always jealous!” – Alexis Simek, Project Manager of Technology

 2. Our Clients! – Where would we be without our amazing and loyal clients?! We are especially thankful for those of you who’ve been with us from the start!

“I’m grateful for clients that view us as an extension of their team, not merely a service provider.” –Tom Rathbone, Head of Technology

“I’m thankful for our clients who trust us to grow their programs and hit their KPI’s.”

– Julie Stepkowski, Sr. Affiliate Program Manager

3. Our Partners, big and small!- We are grateful for our wonderful affiliate and technology partners who have joined with us in meeting countless client goals with quality products, technology and services.  Affiliate marketing truly is a relationship business and we couldn’t do what we do best without them!

4. Work/Life Flexibility-

“I am thankful for being able to drop my little girls off at school in the morning since home is my office.” – Erinn Groh, Affiliate Program Manager

“I am thankful for the flexibility I have working for SPC. I can meet my family in South Korea while working!” – Gayoung Lee, Affiliate Marketing Analyst

5. Our Values-

“I am so thankful not only to work for a thriving company with brilliant individuals, but most of all that I work for a company to be PROUD of and who is proud of me.  Schaaf-PartnerCentric values and utilizes my gifts both personally and professionally. It is such a blessing to work for leaders who care for and genuinely appreciate their team members.”

– Dana Pezzin, Marketing Coordinator

6. A Thriving Industry-

“I am thankful for the ever-changing and exciting industry we work in and the phenomenal network agency reps we get to partner with to help our clients meet their goals every day.”

– Dan Fink, Sr. Affiliate Program Manager

7. The Internet- The Internet has made it possible for even the smallest companies to sell their products and services around the world and to work with employees in remote locations like SPC.  And the rise of social media allows for a direct line to customers and clients which can create very targeted opportunities. Without the internet we wouldn’t thrive as a company and you wouldn’t be reading this post!

8. Mobile growth- Mobile growth has been outpacing other advertising sectors and is expected to remain on this trajectory because of the explosive growth of mobile devices. We are grateful for the added growth opportunities and marketing strategies this can translate to for our clients (like pay per call, geo targeting, online to offline, etc).

9. Team Bonding at DisneyWorld- SPC treated the team and their beloved families to an unforgettable trip to DisneyWorld this past September and it was an unbelievable opportunity to spend time together and bond with each other and our loved ones!

10. Passion- 10 years ago two brothers driven by passion and a dream, Brook & Forrest Schaaf, started Schaaf-PartnerCentric. Flash forward 10 years and their dream is now a reality driven by a dream team of very passionate employees!

“I am thankful for the most amazing team in the industry.”

– Forrest Schaaf, Partner & Co-Founder

Happy Thanksgiving!

Meet The Team: SPC MVPs

Author : Dana Pezzin

If you’ve ever met anybody from our team in person, you can probably tell that the Schaaf-PartnerCentric team is one big, happy family.  We’re incredibly proud of our employees and wanted to give you; our valued clients and partners, the chance to get to know our team on a deeper level. In this monthly series, Meet the Team: SPC MVPs, we highlight a few of our team members to give more insight into who they are and how our company functions. This month we are excited to present a special Marketing Edition of SPC MVPs! Meet our marketing gals: Morgan, Dana and Kelsey!

Morgan, hubby Preston and baby Samuel on their first family trip to the famous Seattle Farmers Market!

Name: Morgan Simon

Position: Sr. Marketing Manager

How long have you worked at SPC? It will be one year next month!

What does your work day typically look like? The thing I love about SPC is that no two days are the same! Everyday includes with emails, followed by a daily Sales and Marketing huddle call and typically content and campaign planning and execution. Depending on the time of year there will also be event planning, webinars, trade shows, etc.

What is your favorite thing about the industry? I love how fast paced this industry is. Best practices and laws are always changing so if you aren’t constantly innovating you’ll get left behind. I’ve also been fortunate enough to meet so many smart, awesome people through affiliate marketing, I love what a tight knit community it is!

Is there anything else you want readers to know about you? I can’t do a write up on myself and not mention that I have the sweetest 3 month old son, Samuel! He made me a mama in August and life has never been sweeter.

What is your favorite holiday tradition? Do I have to pick just one? I live for the holidays! My very favorite tradition would have to be my mom’s Christmas morning breakfast strata. She has made it since I was a little girl and there is nothing better than waking up to the smell of it wafting up their stairs on Christmas morning.

What are you most thankful for this holiday season? The top thing is of course my family (my husband Preston and son Samuel). Working for a company that is so supportive and encouraging to their employees is also at the top of my list – thanks for being so great, SPC!

Dana and manfriend Andy celebrating their anniversary at Crystal Cove State Beach!

Name: Dana Pezzin

Position: Marketing Coordinator & Designer

How long have you worked at SPC? Almost 1 year!!

What does your work day typically look like? Typically my day starts when I feel my dog Bear’s cold nose on mine.  This is how he says “Good Morning!” (usually before the alarm has even gone off). So we run to Starbucks on the corner, say hello to the friendly old fellas that sit at the same patio table every day, grab a coffee and head home to start the day! It is then I throw a vinyl on the record player and log on to touch-base with my amazing team at SPC!  We chat about our plans for the day and then get right to work! My day could include anything from putting together our monthly newsletter to designing an infographic or writing for our blog!  Its never dull and new projects are always coming down the pipeline so there really is no “typical” work day and I LOVE that!

What is your favorite thing about the industry? I think my favorite thing about the industry is that it is ever-changing.  There’s something to be said for an industry that is always innovating, growing, and evolving.  I am CONSTANTLY learning whether from my teammates, industry leaders, or in my day-to-day exchanges with friends in the business. So nice to work in a business thats never boring.

Is there anything else you want readers to know about you? I am a huge advocate for always being more kind than you feel like being. With all the hate, frustration, and doubt being expressed around our country and all over the world right now, Lord knows that its easy to become discouraged and lack the motivation to be warm and considerate. No matter who you voted for, or if you didn’t vote at all, be kind ya’ll. What an incredible change we would see in our world if we all tried to be more loving, more tolerant, more kind.

What is your favorite holiday tradition? Every year since my brother, sister and I were kids, after Thanksgiving dinner, my mom has presented each of us with a thoughtfully selected Christmas tree ornament so that when we grew old enough to have our own homes and our own tree’s we’d already have a collection to decorate with.  I now have my own cozy little home and my own tree adorned with 24 beautiful ornaments and holiday Barbie on top!

What are you most thankful for this holiday season? I have so much to be thankful for! God has blessed me with great health, an incredible family, a loving man, a career where I work with amazing people and a grateful heart.  There will always be hurdles to jump and life will never be perfect but where’s the fun in perfect anyway?! #THANKFUL

Kelsey (middle) and her girlfriends Kate and Katie exploring Davis Mountains State Park

Name: Kelsey Aschenbeck

Position: Graphic Designer

How long have you worked at SPC? 2 years

What does your work day typically look like? The first thing I do is look at the to-do list I made from the day before. I make a plan of attack for the day and get started. As a remote worker, the plan is essential. I have a desk full of paint pens, markers, and other fun art supplies that could distract me if I’m not diligent about my plan. Sometimes I write out the plan in those fun supplies, which is a nice little daily art exercise in itself. After that, I either hunker down at my home desk or walk down to Radio Coffee & Beer (but not for the beer, y’all! That’s for after 5!) It’s also essential to take a walk and enjoy the Austin sunshine every day.

What is your favorite thing about the industry? I like working in a future-facing industry. What is yesterday’s affiliate marketing doesn’t necessarily look like tomorrow’s. It’s exciting to keep up, look forward, and contribute visually to the ideas flying around our company.

Is there anything else you want readers to know about you? Its very common for graphic designers to reveal the tools they use (in addition to Adobe’s creative suite, of course) so here we go:
-Shinola sketchbook….I am obsessed with the softcover and pockets. The paper is perfect for doodling and light watercolor. Also, it’s an American-made product!

-Field Notes sketchbook by Aaron Draplin. (Yes, I carry around two sketchbooks…this one is for all the lists I make!) It’s fun and you support a badass designer with your purchase.

-TWSBI mini pen. It’s beautiful. I’ve used mine for four years now almost every day, so it’s on its last leg. I plan to buy myself another one as a Christmas present.

-MUJI pens for those of you who squirm at the thought of spending a lot on a pen.

Also, I think it’s important for designers who spend all day working on a screen to disconnect and do something by hand. I did that by completing #the100dayproject where you pick one thing to do every day for 100 days. You’ll find my here: #100DaysofPickingUpABrush

What is your favorite holiday tradition? Christmas is not a sprint, but a marathon in my family. Every Christmas Eve we gather at my grandmother’s house to have her homemade chicken salad sandwiches and soup. It’s a nice break from all the heavy food that is happening at every other gathering around that time. Oh man, I’m craving it right now as we speak.

If you could invite anyone, living or dead, to Thanksgiving dinner who would it be? Charles and Ray Eames. I’m such a design nerd right now…but if you haven’t heard of them, they are one of the most prolific design couples in American history. I remember having a chat with Brook when I was interviewing about how much I want an Eames chair one day. I love that they had their hands in all types of design…from furniture to film to exhibitions. I highly recommend their documentary– “Eames: the Architect and the Painter.”
Also, I would invite Leslie Knope. She’s not real, but how great is she?

What are you most thankful for this holiday season? The Gilmore Girls Netflix revival. Ha, but seriously, getting time to spend with my friends, family, and boyfriend. My boyfriend is currently working on making his own cider right now, so I think I will be especially thankful for that during this busy holiday season.

Ciao, everyone! Tune in next month to get to know your SPC family a little better!

Trends & Moves: November

Author : Tom Rathbone

Programmatic in Affiliate

Programmatic advertising is in an interesting position – it is a completely natural and expected evolution, but it is being questioned quite a bit as to the actual value (this is a broader trend in advertising as well).

We are seeing increased investment in programmatic advertising as the efficiency gains are desirable, despite decreased confidence – yet interestingly enough that also comes with a decreased risk perception.

On the affiliate side, we don’t have much in the way of programmatic (yet), but we are seeing a few moves in that direction. Many of the larger platforms/networks have begun to actively invest in functionality that will programmatically increase conversion for the publishers. Naturally, larger publishers will already have the ability to display what they know as the ads most likely to convert for them. They have the means to invest in this level of sophistication. The missing piece for publishers in the affiliate channel is knowing which ad is most likely to connect with their user – which delves more into personalization. Those spheres will converge, particularly as consolidation increases in the industry – access to that level of data is critical.

That said, there is a flip side here – many will argue that affiliate marketing is relationship based. To an extent it always will – but relationship-based marketing is inherently inefficient, so we can expect the portion of marketing lead by 1:1 relationships to continue to diminish over time as machines can do much of the work for us.

For that reason, our focus is twofold: 1. Continue to leverage all programmatic resources at our disposal to capture that efficiency, and 2. Continue to develop strong, meaningful relationships with the best marketers out there, so our position remains strong in the industry.

Cross Device Tracking

The hot topic of cross-device tracking has been quickly moving from a large problem to solve, to almost commoditized at this point within the industry. The need to understand and track how a customer moves from their many disparate devices as they interact witha single advertiser is of pivotal interest to affiliates – they understand that their referral to a customer may end up credited to another source as that customer bounces between devices.

We’re now at a point where, rather quickly, four platforms are offering these solutions.

Affiliate Window released their cross device tracking in early 2015. Being the first network to release this technology, they use a deterministic method to track these conversions, and have seen some very strong results. This is proprietary technology to the Affiliate Window network.

Linkconnector has been offering their cross device tracking since summer 2016. This uses a similar method as Affiliate Window, and is also proprietary to the network. (See here) They continue to see growth in the percentage of transactions with the cross device tracking involved, and we look forward to seeing more from them!

TradeDoubler also offers cross device tracking in a deterministic fashion, similar to Affiliate Window.

The fourth platform we saw (quietly) release cross device tracking was Impact Radius. This is a bit different – in that the tracking utilizes both Impact Radius proprietary tracking (similar to the other options) and if the advertiser opts for it, additional tracking utilizing third party technology from TapAd.

This last part is very interesting to me – the weakness in all the proprietary cross-device tracking technology is that it can naturally only exist within what that network or platform “sees”. So bringing on another technology that looks beyond those confines strengthens the accuracy considerably. We’re really interested to continue testing this with our clients and study the results.
