What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a marketing channel in which advertisers (merchants) distribute online sales materials (banners, text links, etc.) and recruit marketing partners (affiliates – also known as publishers) who agree to use the advertisements to promote the advertiser’s products or services in exchange for a commission on any leads or sales that result from actions derived from those ad placements.
Affiliate marketing creates a virtual sales force of web publishers that connect targeted consumers with merchants through the creation of proprietary networks of special interest web sites where consumers are likely to engage with the merchant brand.
What is an affiliate?
Affiliates are the marketers who drive traffic to the advertiser’s site. They do this in a number of ways including search engine optimization, paid search advertising and social media. The affiliates are compensated based on their performance – the number of leads or sales that they drive to the advertiser. For this reason, you’ll often hear affiliate marketing referred to as performance marketing.
What is an affiliate manager?
An affiliate manager oversees the day-to-day tasks that keep an affiliate program going and the big-picture strategy development and implementation. The affiliate manager is the guardian of all affiliate relationships, handling everything from new affiliate recruitment to communication with affiliates about deals, special offers and program changes. Schaaf-PartnerCentric’s affiliate managers have a broad base of experience working not only with top affiliates in a wide range of niches but also possess expertise in working with all of the affiliate networks to support the affiliate programs we manage. What is an affiliate network?
A network provides the tracking platform by which all affiliate traffic will be tracked, analyzed and monetized. The large third-party networks also provide a ready stable of affiliates who are waiting to find and join new affiliate programs.
Who manages affiliate programs?
There are generally three types of affiliate managers whose job it is to ensure the affiliate program is growing.
* In-house: These in-house managers typically perform other duties in addition to affiliate management functions and is unable to focus or develop expertise in the wide range of areas that are required of affiliate program management.
* Network: Some of the networks also manage affiliate programs. The challenge here is that if a network is managing your program, they can only manage your program on their network. Depending on the program, this can mean your program misses opportunities that exist outside the reach of the particular network that’s managing your program.
* OPM agency: Outsourced affiliate program management agencies like Schaaf-PartnerCentric provide you with dedicated affiliate managers who are expert with working with all of the networks. The OPM has spent years establishing strong relationships with the networks and also with top publishers. Learn about how Schaaf-PartnerCentric can help you.
