As our industry continues to debate the ethics of posting affiliate links within posts on Twitter, Amazon.com has weighed in with a decision of its own – that it will NOT pay commission on affiliate links placed on Twitter.
To explain the decision, Amazon.com cited its terms and conditions, which says affiliate links must be on the affiliate’s own web site. That in and of itself is hardly news – most networks and merchants have similar policies. This is the first time, however, that a merchant has extended the policy to include social media sites such as Twitter.
