How the Closure of Google Affiliate Network Affects the Affiliate Marketing Industry

When we first heard the news Tuesday that Google Affiliate Network was shutting down, our thoughts turned first to our clients – especially those whose affiliate programs now operate solely on the Google Affiliate Network.

We aren’t concerned about their future because we believe that future to be very bright indeed. It’s going to be good for them – and good for the industry – to take some time to re-examine their affiliate programs redirect resources other innovating networks. There are many opportunities out there that have been missed – and now is a great time to discover and make us of those.

The good news is that all remaining networks have already announced that they’ll be devoted to making the transition an easy one for those merchants who need to move their programs to new homes.

Our concern extended also to the team members at Google Affiliate Network – talented and dedicated individuals who have been such great partners for us, our clients and affiliates through the years. We’re happy to report that the Google team members we’ve spoken with this week are comfortable – even excited – to be moving to other positions within the company.

Speaking of Google, we feel that the shutdown is also a testament to how massive Google is – that the revenue from Google Affiliate Network wasn’t enough to make it as scalable as othe products.

So, now we continue the work as trusted adviser to our clients and partners. We’ve been reaching out to share our first thoughts as to next steps for our merchants – and we encourage anyone who has questions or concerns to contact us. We’re here to help.
